Understanding Prop A
Proposition A provides $5.5M of new funding in the current fiscal year and is expected to provide at least as much each year thereafter. This money will go directly to the Maintenance and Operations budget to provide teacher and staff raises, maintain student programs, and implement state required safety and security measures.
Detailed cost information can be found at www.MISD.org.
Recruit and Retain High-Quality Staff
Our schools face a national teacher shortage, struggling to fill vacancies and retain great educators - especially in special education and enrichment courses. This directly threatens the quality of education in Montgomery ISD. We must VOTE YES to ensure our District remains competitive and continues to provide the best for our students.
The shortage affects more than just teachers. We're also struggling to recruit and retain essential staff, like school nurses, bus drivers, librarians, and Career and Technical Education instructors because these professions are in high demand outside of schools. If we can’t fill these critical roles, our students and community will suffer. VOTE YES to ensure our kids have the resources and support they need to succeed.
Keep Class Sizes Small
Smaller class sizes are proven to boost student achievement and reduce discipline issues. But without enough teachers, we can’t provide the quality education our children deserve. Vote FOR Prop A to keep class sizes small and keep achievement up and discipline problems down.
Protect Student Programs
We all know how important “the extras” are for students. When funding doesn’t keep up, these are the first programs that have to go. VOTE FOR Prop A to protect important programs, like gifted & talented, career and technical education, field trips, and other enrichment programs that keep our schools at the top in the state.
Keep Our Schools Safe
Did you know Texas mandates an armed officer on every campus? Last year, our District spent $1.3 million to meet this requirement but only received $240,000 from the state. VOTE FOR Prop A to protect our students and keep our campuses safe.
